Kevin Edmund Youkilis

Kevin Edmund Youkilis ( /ˈjuːkəlɪs/; born March 15, 1979), also known as "Youk" ( /ˈjuːk/), is an American professional baseball player with the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he was drafted by the Red Sox in 2001 after playing college baseball at the University of Cincinnati.

According to the Boston Herald's Inside Track Report, Boston Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis has gotten engaged to Julie Brady, a California school teacher. Why are we reporting this? Well, it just so happens that Julie Brady is the sister of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Well what do you know?

Youkilis' expected marriage will be his second, as he was once married to former Ben Affleck girlfriend Enza Sambataro for just over two years (2008-2010). After the couple split, Sambataro stepped down as the CEO for Youkilis' charity, Youk's Kids. He and Brady reportedly met after the Patriots lost to the New York Jets in the first round of the 2010 playoffs and have been dating ever since.

The two had been dating for at least a year, according to the Herald.

Roger Williams won at number two as senior Kristin Dono (West Boylston, Mass.) and junior Olivia Hilton (Vernon, Conn.) doubled up sophomore Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) and junior Jillian Flynn (Billerica, Mass.), 8-4. The visitors completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at number one as senior Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) teamed with classmate Samantha Curran (Lakeville, Mass.) to defeat senior Joanna Gustafson (Ashburnham, Mass.) and junior Sophie Boyce (South Portland, Maine).

Mr. Williams' 1955 hit "Autumn Leaves" was the only piano instrumental to reach No. 1 on the Billboard pop charts. It remains the best-selling piano record of all time, with more than 2 million sold.

Nicknamed the "pianist to the presidents," Mr. Williams played for every commander in chief from Harry Truman to George H.W. Bush. His last trip to the White House was in 2008, when he performed at a luncheon for then-first lady Laura Bush.

California Governor Signs Dream Act

California Governor Jerry Brown signed the Dream Act into law today, saying that California needs to provide more educational opportunities to illegal immigrants. The legislation will make it possible for illegal immigrants to receive financial aid to attend California universities.

Brown said in a statement:

    “Going to college is a dream that promises intellectual excitement and creative thinking. The Dream Act benefits us all by giving top students a chance to improve their lives and the lives of all of us.”

The Los Angeles Times reports that the California Dream Act will allow illegal immigrants who are accepted into state universities to receive Cal-Grant assistance starting in 2013. The Cal-Grant assistance program provided an average of $4,500 to more than 370,000 low income students last year.

Governor Brown’s office said in a statement:

    “The overall Cal Grant program is funded at $1.4 billion, meaning that 1% of all Cal Grant funds will be potentially impacted by AB 131 when the law goes into effect.”

The Wall Street Journal notes that the controversial bill that a federal Dream Act failed to pass congress last year. The Federal Dream Act would have given undocumented students “a path to short-term permanent residency status.”

On Saturday, Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 131, the second bill of the two-part California Dream Act, allowing undocumented immigrant students to apply for state-funded financial aid for college.

In July, Brown signed AB 130, making funding from private sources available to undocumented students. With Saturday's signing of AB 131, the California Dream Act passed in its entirety, granting undocumented students access to public and private funding for college.

British pop artist dies at 89

Richard Hamilton's gallery says the British Pop Art pioneer has died. He was 89. The Gagosian Gallery says Hamilton died early Tuesday. It did not disclose the cause. Hamilton was often called the "Father of Pop Art," a movement marked by its ironic and iconic use of pop-culture imagery. He made his name in the 50s with "Just What Is It That Makes Today's Homes So Different, So Appealing?" — a collage showing a naked couple in a product-strewn home. His images were striking and often political, from Mick Jagger in handcuffs to Tony Blair as a cowboy.

And it’s only the latest example of fervor around the store. In the past year alone, Whole Foods has inspired rap songs,. more than 2000-word-long resignation e-mails, and full-blown culture wars.

The media has at turns called it “food porn” and at others called it “the future of democratic capitalism.”

Nick Paumgarten explained the dilemma over how to think about Whole Foods best when he wrote in the New Yorker last year: “Depending on where you are on the spectrum of epicurean cultural politics, you may consider Whole Foods to be a righteous grocer or a cynical con, a prod to self-improvement or a gateway to decadence, a neighborhood boon or a blight, a force for social good or a place to pick up chicks.”
